Come Ministries (Welcome and Worship)

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:35-41

The mission and vision of “Come” ministries is that Riverton UMC be a body of believers that come together to express their love for God and for each other as well as offering the love and grace of God to everyone who walks through our doors.

Our plan is to provide an atmosphere of praise and worship in which God is exalted, He then inhabits the praises of His people, and this allows us to have an encounter with Him. This will also be conducive to provide continual growth in becoming worshipers who worship God in spirit and truth as instructed in John 4: 23-24.

We will also continue to model our praise and worship time through music using multiple styles in the spirit of Ephesians 5:19-20 which tells us to “admonish one another with  psalms, hymns and  spiritual songs”.
Beginning in January, 2014, Riverton UMC has also accepted the invitation to become a Prayer Covenant Congregation in which we will…

  1. Have at least one weekly prayer group that will include weekly prayers for the renewal and revival of their congregation, the Virginia Conference, and The United Methodist Church.
  2. Offer at least one class on prayer annually.
  3. Participate in Conference or District prayer equipping (training) events.
  4. Move toward at least 10% of the laity practicing a “one hour daily” spiritual discipline.
